Italian ambassador to Libya Giuseppe Perrone is remaining in Rome during the dangerous tensions in Libya's capital, Tripoli.
Mitiga airport which was hit by two missions earlier this week is the only functioning one in Tripoli and has now been closed.
Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi announced his decision to keep Ambassador Giuseppe Peroni in Rome on Wednesday before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian parliament.
The Foreign Minister attributed the ministry's decision to keep the ambassador in Italy "for security reasons." However, he noted that the Italian embassy in Tripoli will remain "open and functioning" normally.
The minister also told parliament that the international conference organized by Italy on Libya in November will be held in Sicily.
Italy will attempt during the conference to calm the situation in Libya, which has become more fragile than ever before, especially after the clashes in Tripoli.
