The Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives denounced on Thursday in "the strongest terms" the remarks made by Italian Ambassador to Libya Giuseppe Perrone, in which he called for postponement of the elections, calling it a "violation of diplomatic norms governing his work as representative of his country in Libya."
The Committee says it considered the statement "blatant interference and a serious violation of national sovereignty," demanding the Italian Foreign Ministry to hold Perrone accountable.
It also considered that "Ambassador Perrone is not desirable in Libya, calling for another ambassador to be appointed."
The committee called on the Libyan people to stand together, renounce differences and preserve the sovereignty of their country and maintain their defense against foreign interference.
The statement made by the Italian ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Perrone, came during a television interview on political issues, the date of the elections and his country's position on other international initiatives to resolve the Libyan crisis.
