The family of Wissam Bin Hamid confirmed his death on Monday, but did not specify the date or place of his death, according to their statement.
Bin Hamid, who was a field commander of Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries, was thought to have been killed during a battle in Benghazi.
The spokesman of General Command of the Armed Forces of Libya, Colonel Ahmed al-Mismari, announced in January 2017, that Bin Hamid had been killed in an airstrike, although there has not been any confirmation of his death until his family’s statement today.
Bin Hamid was regarded as one of the most prominent Islamist leaders of the Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries.
In the past, local media circulated a video showing Bin Hamid standing in front of a tank with an ISIS flag on it.
