The Commander of the Army, Khalifa Haftar, arrived in Benghazi on Thursday evening after weeks of uncertainty concerning his health.
The Libyan Hadath channel showed video of Hafter arriving at Benina Airport and walking out of a plane, where he was greeted by Chief of Staff Abdul Razek al-Nazhuri, Major General Abdul Salam al-Hassi, a number of army officers, senior officials, dignitaries and sheikhs.
LNA spokesman Ahmed al-Mismari told France 24, that Haftar would take part in celebrations marking the anniversary of his “Karama” campaign, the military operation he started in 2014 to drive Islamist militants and other opponents out of Benghazi.
Hafter in a televised speech said that “his confidence in the Libyan people has become very large, which is not easy and required great sacrifices.”
His speech was broadcasted live during his reception at Benina Airport in the city of Benghazi on Thursday evening.
Haftar had been in Paris for about two weeks, where his spokesman earlier said he had been treated after feeling unwell.
From Paris, Haftar flew to Cairo for talks with officials from Egypt, his main backer, several Libyan and Egyptian sources told Alwasat.
