The director of the media office at Bani Walid General Hospital, Hatem Al-Tuwaijer, tells Alwasat that it was decided to close the hospital after the administrative building and the emergency department were destroyed subject to arson and the medical personnel were attacked.
Al-Tuwaijer explained that the decision was taken unanimously by the administration, medical and auxiliary elements, due to the frequent sabotage operations inside the hospital and the lack of security agencies capable of protecting it.
He also stated that the lack of a space to filter suspected coronavirus cases inside the hospital made personnel more vulnerable to insult, verbal and physical abuse by the families of those with suspected infections.
A source at Bani Walid General Hospital confirmed to Alwasat on Tuesday, that the hospital's ambulance and emergency department had also halted work after being sabotaged and tampered with. According to the source the relatives of a person who had died from coronavirus were responsible.
The source said that a number of devices were damaged and broken, in addition to the smashing of windows and glass.
It is noteworthy that the administration of Bani Walid General Hospital closed all the outpatient clinics, after members of the hospital’s medical staff were infected with the virus.
