The Prime Minister of Libya's Interim Government, Abdullah Al-Thinni, has ordered the complete closure of mosques in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

He indicated in an official statement on Tuesday, that this measure is in effect until "making sure that this virus is eradicated, the crisis eases safely, and life returns to normal."

Al-Thinni pointed out that "imams of mosques, residents and the security apparatus are expected to comply with the order," warning "everyone who violates it will be held legally accountable."

The General Authority of Endowments and Islamic Affairs for the Interim Government prohibited the congregation of groups inside mosques for the previous Friday's prayers, but it allowed gathering in mosque yards.
