The European Union (EU) Delegation to Libya on Friday said that it had provided a drinking water plant to Wadi Al Bawanis area in southern Libya.

"The residents of Wadi Al Bawanis can now access safe drinking water," EU Delegation to Libya said in a statement.

"The new plant can provide up to 8,000 liters of safe drinking water per day for the community," it added.

Due to years of armed conflict and instability, Libyan authorities have been struggling to provide basic services to the people, including electricity and water supplies.

The Man-Made River project, the main water supplier in Libya, has been shut down by armed groups several times in the past, in order to pressure the authorities to fulfill their demands.
