Libya's Minister of Oil and Gas, Mohamed Oun, participated in the virtual meeting on the policies adopted on natural gas in Africa, which was organized by the African Energy Commission, on Monday. In his speech, Oun said that the oil and gas sector in Libya seeks to develop onshore and offshore gas fields in order to increase production and bridge the deficit.

He explained that these development works are aimed at providing natural gas to consumers, as well as developing the capacity of the natural gas transmission network to meet the needs of local consumption of natural gas in all parts of Libya.

He pointed to the interest in power plants and exporting the surplus, in order to reduce the use of fossil fuels to preserve the environment.

He stressed the ministry's national commitment to preserving the environment and the climate, and its keenness to adopt the "zero gas flaring" policy and emphasizing the implementation of environmental sanitation programs.

He also pointed to the development of an action plan to benefit from natural gas in generating electricity in African countries whose populations lack electricity.
