Libyan Government of National Unity Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba said on Sunday that “Libya is an oil country, and it is unacceptable that we are the ones who produce oil and at the same time import its derivatives.”

He continued, "it is also not possible for the areas where oil flows under the feet of their children to remain the least developed places and suffer from a lack of services."

Therefore, Dabaiba stressed that "the project to establish a refinery in southern Libya, which is long awaited by our people there, is a step to address these challenges"

Dabaiba announced earlier on Sunday, the establishment of an oil refinery in the Obari region of southern Libya, a project that will be implemented by the Al-Zallaf Company and aims to provide fuel supplies to the southern region at a lower financial cost.

The project will cost between $500 million and $600 million and become operational within three years, according to the head of Libya's state oil company, Mustafa Sanalla.
He said an annual income of $75 million was expected.
