Government of National Unity Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba announced on Thursday, his intention to “establish a fund to support and develop the regions that pump most of Libya’s oil by deducting a percentage from each barrel of oil sold,” according to a statement published by the government.
This came during Dabaiba's reception of a delegation comprising representatives of tribes, dignitaries and mayors from the oil crescent and Al-Wahat regions.
Dabaiba said that “we must be freed from the restrictions that have tied us up for 50 years and we must look to the future and benefit from our natural resources by maximizing and investing them, in addition to employing them in the right place,” according to the statement.
He stressed that the government of national unity will work to restore life to all regions through the "Return to Life" program, pointing out that granting powers to municipalities is the first step in this path.
During the meeting, officials also reviewed the projects included in the "Return to Life" program for the region. Problems and obstacles facing the municipalities and residents of these areas were also discussed.
