Direct flights begin between Malta and Libya

Libyan Transport Minister Mohamed Al-Shahoubi announced on Monday the first flights between Libya and Malta after a suspension of more than two years.

The Maltese Minister of Economy arrived on the first flight and was received by Al-Shahoubi in the presence of the Libyan Minister of Economy,  Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, the head of the Airports Authority and the Director General of Mitiga Airport.

"This step contributes to facilitating the movement of business owners between the two countries, organizing joint economic events and exhibitions aimed at raising the level of trade exchange and stimulating investment," said Mohamed Al-Hweij, Libya's Minister of Economy.

The Libyan and Maltese transport ministries signed an agreement on the opening of airspace between the two countries on September 9th after the completion of the required protocols.
