The chairman of Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustafa Sanalla, met on Monday with the mayor of Misrata, Mahmoud Al-Saqoutri, where the two sides discussed ways of joint cooperation to "solve the problem of securing gas transmission lines along the coast and within the the city's municipal borders."
Sanalla warned of "the risks posed by the construction of indiscriminate or illegal structures to these gas lines," noting that halting the building of these structures was of paramount importance because of risk to people's safety," according to a statement published on Monday.
The meeting also touched on "the assistance that the NOC can provide to meet the urgent needs of the municipality, especially in the areas of services and health."
In addition to "the possibility of the NOC contributing to the infrastructure of the free zone and the provision of gas supply sources according to the future needs of the free zone. There was also a proposal to introduce clean renewable energies in some areas within the municipality and the significant economic return such projects promise,due to huge amounts spent on fuels to provide electric energy."
