The Food and Drug Control Authority announced the closure of a food products plant in Zliten, after the seizure of goods unfit for consumption from it.
This came after a tour by inspectors in the municipality, accompanied by members of the municipal guard, according to a statement.
During the tour, the inspectors recorded several violations at the plant: "hygiene is poor, workers do not wear work uniforms, ventilation inside the plant is not good, lighting is not good, olives are kept in plastic barrels and exposed to the sun outside the plant, unpleasant odors are emitted, and poor storage has damaged food items, as well as other expired goods."
They also observed: "the presence of signs of apparent expiration on the olives and the emission of unpleasant odors, the mush is unfit for consumption because of the presence of rot and unpleasant odors, packing the olives in plastic containers in violation of good manufacturing methods, damaging garbage and waste disposed of unsanitary way, and the factory does not conform to sanitary requirements."
The necessary legal and seizure measures have been taken against the violators and the plant will remain closed until previous observations are corrected, according to the statement
