Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced on Wednesday that the total losses from sales opportunities as a result of the closure of oil facilities amounted to $8.221 billion during the last 208 days.

The closures continued following the stalled negotiations last month to resume oil production and exports between the NOC and the Government of National Accord with international and regional parties sponsored by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and the United States.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors for the NOC, Mustafa Sanallah, warned on Saturday, that "the militarization of oil facilities, the presence of mercenaries and military escalation increases the risks of the hydrocarbon and chemical materials stored at oil ports to workers and the local population."

Sanallah also warned of "a disaster greater than the one that occurred at the port of Beirut," and caused hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries.
