Libya's state-owned National Oil Corporation (NOC) on Saturday welcomed its recognition as the country's sole sovereign oil institution by the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
"NOC strongly supports the statement issued by UNSMIL, and notes that the international community has explicitly recognized NOC's control over import and export of crude oil and petroleum products. This is an important step to prevent the partition of Libya," NOC said in a statement.
"Use of Libya's oil or oil facilities in war is a breach of International Humanitarian Law and can be prosecuted as a war crime," the statement said.
On Friday, UNSMIL warned against attempts by the eastern-based government to divide the NOC.
