During his meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, the Mayor of Benghazi discussed cooperation and the possibility of setting up an economic forum in Benghazi during the coming period, according to the municipality's Facebook page.
The municipality said that Al-Abar discussed "Italy's contribution to demining and providing the competent authorities with demining equipment and artificial limbs." Al-Abar was quoted as saying that "Barqa was affected by conflicts and deprived of its resources."
Al-Abar added "We hope that Italy, one of the sponsors of the dialogue, will give the region its right," adding that "the resources go to the Central Bank of Libya and the unconstitutional unity government and thus go to the militias, which is unacceptable." He called for " Hope to overcome any obstacles," according to the municipality.
For his part, Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Perrone pointed out that there is an initiative to build the headquarters of the Oil Corporation and open scholarships for students of Benghazi University, stressing that "the city of Benghazi was part of the program set up by Italy and the EU in support of municipalities, through health sector aid and infratructure project."
Ambassador Perrone explained that he started an official visit to the city of Benghazi and held important discussions on all bilateral initiatives between Benghazi and Italy in reconstruction, economic and academic fields. "We had Italian companies hold meetings on grants, investment, infrastructure and other fields."
